22:28the good, the bad, and the lazy
I told myself that I wouldn't do this but I just can't stay away. Gah! Whatever.
While daydreaming as I was studying Accounting, I started thinking about why the most interesting people you can read and watch are always the evil dudes and people. Whether they're bitches or bastards, you can't stop wondering what they're going to do next or who they're going to blow up or kill next and why they're so evil in the first place.In a story of a book, there's always a protagonist and an antagonist. Perhaps more than one but there's at least one in every story. It's the most fundamental rule of literature that makes a great story. Without the antagonist, who would the hero or heroine rescue the innocents from? Without the protagonist, who would make the hero's life miserable and torture them beyond recognition? The two characters are dependant on each other, there's no doubt.
But what makes the evil one so much more interesting than the good one. Shouldn't we all actually be more interested in the hero seeing as he or she should be the model that society should follow. It's definitely better and logical to follow in the footsteps of a brave knight who rescues the damsel in distress rather than a mad scientist who wants to conquer the world and make everyone his undying slaves. And yet, our fascination with the 'evil one' is always prevails. We can't help oohing and aahing over him. Well, it's usually a 'him' rather than a 'her' as personally I feel that the male species make better evil people than the opposite sex. It's not a feminist thing but I know that girls are way more emotional than guys so guys would be a lot better at dispensing of dead bodies without weeping over the petty things, like a broken nail or dirty blood stain on a white silk dress. Furthermore, the evil people always seem to dress so cool and elegantly way better than the good guys. What is it with fashion sense and evil? They seem to blend so well with each other. Though in some cases, not so very well.
I mean, where would Harry be without Voldemort and Snape? For one, he'd probably not have that scar on his forehead but also there wouldn't be a reason to want to read about him now, would it? He'd just be another ordinary boy which frankly we wouldn't give a damn about. Without Snape, there would be no one to torment him in school, which I honestly love all those mental torture scenes between them. And where would Frodo and Aragorn be if there were no Sauron or Saruman metting out their all-too-awesome forces of evilness of orcs and Uruk-hais upon the dying human race. There would be no great story to be told and the hobbits would end up rotting themselves in the Shire while stuffing their faces with ale and pies. There would be no real purpose for Tsuzuki to hang around the living anymore, except maybe for the sweets and cakes, if
there wasn't some crazy, psychotic, homo, and mad doctor cum scientist, named Muraki after him and his body all the time. And there would be no extraordinarily long story to be told as well if there was no Sephiroth to fight against Cloud in the final battle for the planet. I swear he's evil. He just looks cute in this picture now.
My point is that evilness are what makes a story so good. But sometimes, the rule can be bent in a sense that there's really no outrightly said of forces of good and evil. In some cases, the line is blurred and that makes the story even more interesting. But that's for another day.
Finally, I'm the lazy one if no one got the meaning of the title. Back to studying for me now.
Hee.. since I'm logged on and all I shall comment. Well yeah, evil people are more attractive because they're so forbidden.. to me anyways. It's like 'Gasp, how can they do something like that' and er, I suppose it appeals to the rebellious side of people. Doing something which they shouldn't be doing. But I totally agree with the whole 'they always make the villians look so much cooler'. I was just watching Queen of the Damned today and blargh, I don't care, if vampires existed, they would not all be good-looking and dress in stylish black.
